Review: Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper
Remember back in December when I told you about our Kitchen-warming Gifts and that my brother Brad, sister-in-law Stacy, niece and nephew gave us this WhirleyPop popcorn popper.
Well, I thought I’d give a review on the Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper… I have not been compensated for this review.
Growing up in the dark ages (1960s-70s) we made popcorn on the stove in a pan. Shaking it over the heat… melting butter and pouring it over the top of the freshly popped popcorn. It was great popcorn! We did the same thing college… LOVED IT! Then came the fancy popcorn poppers , air poppers and microwave popcorn.
We love popcorn in our family. So it was exciting for me to have “real” popcorn again.
The cast of characters: WhirleyPop popcorn popper, oil, popcorn, seasoning (if desired) and have a large bowl handy
Pour 1-3 tablespoons of oil into the pan. Their instructions state you can use as little as 1 teaspoon! I normally use 1 tablespoon [3 teaspoons] and for this demonstration I tried 2 teaspoons.
Add 1/2 cup popcorn to the pan…
We turn the handle to spread the popcorn around “evenly” across the bottom…
Close the lid and turn on the heat. We have a gas stove top so I set the burner to medium… you don’t want it too hot and definitely not too low. If you use an electric, use a medium-high heat. The instructions say to turn the handle constantly. I forgot to do this one time and it seemed to start popping sooner. Not sure if I had the heat on a different setting or it it really made a difference.
You definitely want to keep it moving when the corn starts popping or you will have burnt popcorn. Keep turning the handle until you don’t hear any popping and/or the handle won’t turn any more.
Remove from heat and pour into bowl… Look how much popcorn it makes! This is a large bowl – it measures 10 inches across and is about 5 inches deep.
Season your popcorn as desired and enjoy!
We ABSOLUTELY love, Love, LOVE our WhirelyPop Popcorn Popper! Thank you again, Brad and Stacy!!!! 😀
The prep and cooking takes about 3-4 minutes. Cleanup is easy. According to their frequently asked questions, when the pan is cool we just wipe it out with a paper towel to keep it seasoned. I wash it every fifth time with warm soap, but do not scrub it.
Here’s what the inside of the pan looks like when the batch is done. There are more “burnt bits” than I normally see. I’m going to chalk that up to I used 2 teaspoons of oil instead of 3.
How do you make your popcorn?
usually in a bag in the microwave, but hubs doesn’t eat it so normally I don’t. the daughter got a box from my uncle for Halloween so she eats that 🙂
Oh… I love popcorn. I can’t believe PC doesn’t eat it. Weirdo! 😉
This post made me so excited! I absolutely love popcorn! My friend had been telling me about the whirly pop for about a year when I finally went and bought one! He has a secret recipe for kettle corn…not very healthy, but worth it once in a while. 🙂 It’s 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of oil, 1/2 cup of popcorn….And you make it the same way you do the other.

Hi Sarah,
I know, like I told Nicole (above), I love popcorn. My sister-in-law Stacy gave me different kettle corn recipe. I don’t know it off the top of my head, it was sure good when I did fix it. I’ll have to make the two and report back. 😉
Yeah! Let me know how it goes! I’ve also been thinking up some ideas on how to add our honey into it! If you know of any good honey popcorn recipes let me know! 🙂
I love my whirley pop. 🙂
I know.. isn’t it GREAT!?! 😀
