Homemade Peanut Butter

Don’t you just hate it when you go to the store and they don’t have what you want? I buy my peanut butter at Costco and want a specific type. They’ve not had it the last three times I’ve looked. How hard is it for them to carry their OWN Kirkland Organic Creamy Peanut Butter?!?

I recently bought my first “real” food processor. The recipe booklet includes a peanut butter recipe so I thought I’d give it a try. It was pretty simple… well sort of… I made a little mistake…

The recipe calls for 4 Cups of dry roasted peanuts. OK, no problem… I picked some up in the bulk foods section at the grocery store this past weekend. Again, no problem…

The directions say to pulse 10 times and then process for 4 1/2 minutes. Again, no problem… well… sort of…

I set the time for 4:30 and continued talking with hubby, occasionally watching the soon-to-be peanut butter. I was fascinated! Then got this feeling that time was moving really slowly… after looking at the timer a few times I realized my time-warp issue…

My “new” range has a timer, but when one enters 4:30 it doesn’t mean four minutes and 30 seconds… it means four hours and 30 minutes!

Needless-to-say, my first attempt at homemade peanut butter was not a failure, but not a success… It tasted GREAT and was SMOOTH! But, I had peanut soup… 😀

I poured it into my old Costco container (as shown here) and stuck it in the fridge. 😀

I will definitely make this again… being much more careful with the timer! I did find that my “new’ microwave’s timer would have giving me four minutes and 30 seconds. I also have the timer that came with my KitchenAid mixer… 😉
