Friday Cocktail – White Chocolate Martini

wpid-FridayCocktail-2012-11-9-07-30.png

I’ve mentioned before that I have a “page-a-day” cocktail calendar. Well, last week they had a White Chocolate Martini. I made it, but it wasn’t so great, but I decided to deviate from the recipe and it turned out pretty good.

Cast of Characters: vodka, heavy cream, orange (all I had was a Clementine), high quality white chocolate and the original recipe calls for ice, but my changes don’t use ice. Have it handy just in case you decide you want this on ice.

Put your vodka and glass in the freezer. Don’t be like me and put the glass in a sliding drawer and get the glass stuck!! 😉

Grate the white chocolate; I used a microfine grater…

After the glass is well chilled, remove it from the freezer…

Take the orange wedge and rub it around the rim…

Take the glass, with the rim still wet, and dip it in the grated white chocolate…

…I really like this particular white chocolate so I made sure I put extra on my glass… put glass back in freezer (be careful to not knock off the grated white chocolate)…

Put 2 ounces of the white chocolate in a microwave-safe container…
wpid-IMG_2792-2012-11-30-07-45.jpg

Add 1 ounce of heavy cream to the white chocolate and put it in the microwave and heat in 30 second intervals on low (I used the defrost level – you do not want it to scorch!)

Each time the microwave is done, stir and repeat until all the white chocolate is melted…

While the white chocolate is melting, pour 2 ounces vodka into a shaker. (It looks cloudy because reused the cream shot glass.)

When the white chocolate is melted, pour into shaker with vodka. The cream/white chocolate should not be hot. The first time I made this I poured the vodka and white chocolate over ice per the instructions, but the white chocolate solidified and it was a mess and the drink was basically cream and vodka… not very tasty… So this time, I skipped the ice.

Shake pour into chilled glass… (this is why you don’t want the mixture to be hot… the glass could break…

Enjoy! 😀
