Mac Mail Hint: Include Images in Email Reply
Thought of the Day…Have you ever felt really dumb? I have… yesterday! ~Me
It turns out that a majority of my readers are Mac users. I didn’t know! I don’t feel alone in the world. Yep… I am a Mac, too! LOVE THEM. I have only had mine for 2.5 years. Won’t buy another Windows PC!
I learned something yesterday and want to share it with my Mac users… PC users don’t worry, I can write you How-To steps, too, but need to know what you want to know how to do… (I use a PC for my day job)
So for my Mac users, do you use Mac Mail? Do you ever receive an email with a picture in it and when you reply to the email the picture is not included? Are you frustrated by the fact that the picture isn’t there so instead you hit “Forward” instead of “Reply”?
For me, the answer to these questions is a resounding YES!! Needless-to-say, I was very frustrated by the fact that I hadn’t found the solution in the past 2.5 years that I’ve been using a Mac!
Well, yesterday I got even more frustrated because my friend Nicki was sending me emails with pictures and I wanted to reply to her and keep the pictures in the messages. I once again did a Google search, but this time I must have put the right words in the search box because I FOUND THE ANSWER!!
Here’s what you do… I can’t believe how simple this is!
- Open Mail
- From the Edit menu select Attachments
- Click on the Include Original Attachments in Reply and this should put a check mark next to the option
- Now when you reply to emails with pictures, the pictures will be included 😉
I felt REALLY dumb when I found this, but OH AM I HAPPY! 😀
Had you already found this? What other things do you want to know how to do?
Stef,
I am a fellow MAC lady too! We’ve basically gone all MAC here, except for the laptops the boys use for school. We bought one for Ted a few years ago to use with his music recording equipment. He raved about it and saved his money and bought himself an iPad and raved about that. So….we bought a desktop MAC for our main computer and then David bought me an iPad for Mother’s Day. Now I am secretly thinking about buying him one for Christmas. Collin is still in the iPod stage, which I won FREE at the bank, just by taking an online survey!
So there you have it…..all the info you wanted and much much more!!
Have a great day:)
Debbie
P.S. NO – I didn’t know how to do this thing you just showed us and I don’t know how to do much more than just the basics. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Debbie. I’m glad to know you’re also a Mac user. If there is something you don’t know how to do and would like me to write a How-To post… let me know. If I don’t know the answer, I would love to research it… I love learning new things. 😀
Ted has a bright musical future ahead of him. I enjoyed his video. Especially since he put a note on there that this was late at night and not his best. I look forward to seeing more. 😉
hmmmm wonder if the hubs knew that…. I’ll have to ask him!
Fooey.. a waste of bandwidth!
Stef, I frequently send eMail using Mac Mail stationery – some that I have designed, or just one of theirs. I frequently want the font to be a handwritten one. I center the lines sometimes if it is an announcement type thing or an invitation. I like to use “Bradley Hand” or “Handwriting-Dakota”, or most frequently ” Lucida Handwriting”. For more formal notes I use “Lucida Caligraphy”.
The notes always look so nice as I send them but I notice when the recipient replies to me and leaves my note in the returned reply, the font is sometimes converted to something printed and quite unattractive and unlike the effect of the script message I had sent. Is there any chart online that would tell me which Mac fonts to use to avoid them being converted from the classy handwritten or formal calligraphy to everyday print on the PCs?
Nancy
Hi Nancy, thanks for stopping by. I totally know to what you are referring! I drives me nuts, too. I wrote a rather lengthy reply, but decided your question deserved it’s own post – which you can read here.
what if i send a mac mail w/ pictures to someone, then they reply ‘back to me’ – i can’t see the pictures they are commenting about – got a handy fix for this too?
Thanks for stopping by, Crystal. The biggest problem with receiving images back when someone replies is that it is all depended on their mail program or device (computer, smartphone, etc.). If they are Mac users, you can let them know about solution in this post (this is what I’ve done), ask them to “forward” the email back to you instead of “replying”. If they are not Mac users they will need to see if there is a setting in their mail program.
If they are like “youKnoWho” (from the comment above) they may not want to include images because of bandwidth concerns. In that case, you may be out of luck. Sorry!
What’s the trick on an iOS device?
Hi Ken, thanks for stopping by. I haven’t been able to do this without doing a “forward” email. If I figure out a way to do it, I will be sure to let you know.
