Happy Friday! Do you have a Friday Funny to share? Please put a link to it in a comment. Today I spent time reminiscing… …I thought about cottage cheese… …I thought about how fast a tiny creature could eat her 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese… (for perspective… the bowls were about 1 cup) …I thought about how the little gem never complained when an eight-year-old dressed her up… put extra clothes on her to keep her warm… …how she loved to be on our laps… …Thinking how much I was in L-O-V-E when the tiny 1.2 pound puppy joined our family… so small that she fit in the palm of our hands… My foot was bigger than she was… Her new toy was bigger than her head… (oh… please don’t hold the hair and glasses against me… not to mention the shoes, blue socks… UGH, what was I thinking??? Oh right … it was 1989!) … the loves and kisses she used to give… oh yeah… and her tongue! …the games we played… like attacking Daddy’s slipper… …and fetch with a pair of socks which were bigger than her… …she was more than a pet… she was a member of our family… …Has it really been SIX-AND-A-HALF years!?!?! I still hear your bark and can feel your “neck hugs”… you brought so much joy to our lives… we were blessed to have you in our lives for 15 and 1/2 years… We miss you, Lady!!! Happy 22nd Birthday, Girl! Today I had cottage cheese in your memory… Remember back in December when I told you about our Kitchen-warming Gifts and that my brother Brad, sister-in-law Stacy, niece and nephew gave us this WhirleyPop popcorn popper. Well, I thought I’d give a review on the Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper… I have not been compensated for this review. Growing up in the dark ages (1960s-70s) we made popcorn on the stove in a pan. Shaking it over the heat… melting butter and pouring it over the top of the freshly popped popcorn. It was great popcorn! We did the same thing college… LOVED IT! Then came the fancy popcorn poppers , air poppers and microwave popcorn. We love popcorn in our family. So it was exciting for me to have “real” popcorn again. The cast of characters: WhirleyPop popcorn popper, oil, popcorn, seasoning (if desired) and have a large bowl handy Pour 1-3 tablespoons of oil into the pan. Their instructions state you can use as little as 1 teaspoon! I normally use 1 tablespoon [3 teaspoons] and for this demonstration I tried 2 teaspoons. Add 1/2 cup popcorn to the pan… We turn the handle to spread the popcorn around “evenly” across the bottom… Close the lid and turn on the heat. We have a gas stove top so I set the burner to medium… you don’t want it too hot and definitely not too low. If you use an electric, use a medium-high heat. The instructions say to turn the handle constantly. I forgot to do this one time and it seemed to start popping sooner. Not sure if I had the heat on a different setting or it it really made a difference. You definitely want to keep it moving when the corn starts popping or you will have burnt popcorn. Keep turning the handle until you don’t hear any popping and/or the handle won’t turn any more. Remove from heat and pour into bowl… Look how much popcorn it makes! This is a large bowl – it measures 10 inches across and is about 5 inches deep. Season your popcorn as desired and enjoy! We ABSOLUTELY love, Love, LOVE our WhirelyPop Popcorn Popper! Thank you again, Brad and Stacy!!!! The prep and cooking takes about 3-4 minutes. Cleanup is easy. According to their frequently asked questions, when the pan is cool we just wipe it out with a paper towel to keep it seasoned. I wash it every fifth time with warm soap, but do not scrub it. Here’s what the inside of the pan looks like when the batch is done. There are more “burnt bits” than I normally see. I’m going to chalk that up to I used 2 teaspoons of oil instead of 3. How do you make your popcorn? If you recall from my SCORE! A Preview post I talked about spending Valentine’s Day with Hubby shopping at Marshalls and how he pointed out this Le Creuset display. I was swamped with work last week and so I didn’t get back here to do my Valentine’s Day recap. We did indeed buy some Le Creuset stoneware… I picked out two 8.5-inch loaf pans ($14.99 each), a large 2.75 quart crock ($14.99, but I may return), a 10-inch rectangle pan ($12.99) and an 9-inch oval pan ($12.99)… …a Wii Balance Board neoprene cover for $7.99 (and it has a free 30-day membership to 24 Hour Fitness)… …A cute bottle. I am planning on making garlic infused olive oil… The best score… We found some Zwilling J.A.Henckels Twin Pro knives for $49.99 (marked as retail of $120.00 and $140.00)… …but the best gift my loving Hubby gave me… we spent the evening together… laughing, smiling, joking, shopping, talking, dinner and a movie. He even surprised me with these beautiful roses! I had an awesome Valentine’s Day! I love you, Hubby!!!
President Obama is visiting an Oregon Intel campus today. He just flew past my office building on his way to Intel. The helicopter was flying low and was loud. A colleague of mine was at home (Hi, Steve!) and sent the following photos and commentary to our group. Needless-to-say… we cracked up. Behold, the huge crowd awaiting the President at Intel. It all gets too chaotic and the police are forced step in. The demonstrators subdued, the Police move on. Our tax dollars at work! Happy Friday! Do you have a Friday Funny to share? Please put a link to it in your comment. If you recall from my Valentine’s Day Sweets for my Sweeties post, I was giving away one of these cute spatulas The contest is closed now and the winner is… |
