Thought of the DayâŚA vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world. ~Paul Dudley White
Each day I feel almost âpsychedâ to do my next steps. Sounds strange? Maybe a little, but you know the fact that Iâm doing this in little bits of time⌠Iâm not stressed by it. My old inner self (as mentioned in Day 1 post) is feeling GREAT.
I received two great comments yesterday on my Baby Steps, Day 6 Hot Spots post; one from Kim and one from Elaine. Thank you so much! Your words of encouragement mean so much to me. I love having your support.
Elaine, I hope youâll share your progress. đ I love having people tag along. The more the merrier ⌠It makes me feel so much better that there are others out there in similar situations. It can happen to ANYONE!! Remember, what I said on Day 1? I cleaned with toothpicks and straight pins⌠I was a F-R-E-A-K! Now look where I am⌠youâre not alone! If youâre taking the Baby Steps, itâs OK. Youâre in this situation because youâre working your way out of CHAOS (Canât Have Anyone Over Syndrome).
As the post title reveals, Iâve been taking Baby Steps* for seven âdaysâ. (*If you donât know about my Baby Step process? You can get caught up by reading about my Baby Steps. ) A week! Iâve been at this for a week. WOW! (I know itâs really not a week, but letâs not squabble over the minute details)
So the FlyLady says that Baby Steps, Day 7 is âPick Out Your Clothesâ
- Get up and dressed â YEP
- Keep your sink shining â YEP
- Read Big Tent or FlyLady.Net email messages â YEP
- Look at sticky notes in the kitchen and bathroom â YEP
- Recognizing the negative voices when you hear them and changing the words to be nice to you. That is what FLYing (Finally Loving Yourself) is all about. â YEP
- Put out ONE Hot Spot for 2 minutes â YEP, I actually did it for 5 minutes
- New habit for âbefore bed routineâ â Set out clothes for tomorrow â YEP
- Walk a minimum of 7,500 steps but goal is 10,000 steps â YEP, I actually walked 10,602
I was so glad that the new step 7 was added⌠Iâm really behind in laundry and this helped me get ready for work yesterdayâŚ
âŚAll I had to do is get up and VOILA! I was ready. đ
New self-imposed step Walk a minimum of 7,500 steps but goal is 10,000 steps
As you may see, there is an unusual step that has nothing to do with de-cluttering⌠Yep, walk 10,000 steps. According to
Drs. Oz and Rozien, to be considered âactiveâ we need
10,000 steps a day (about 5 miles).
Thatâs right, 7,500-9,999 is âlow activityâ, so I have to get it up to 10,000 to reach my goal. Ultimately, I want to get to 12,500 (âhighly activeâ), but Iâm taking Baby Steps here, too. đ
I almost always wear a pedometer to work so I can see how much Iâm actually doing. I have been writing them on my calendar and now this is a self-imposed step because I need to stick to it and if I add it here then Iâm more accountable. The weekends are going to be hard, but Iâm going to work at wearing it then, too.
After dinner last night I took The Offspring and two of her closest friends to the mall for frozen yogurt. This place has 16 different self-serve flavors along with toppings if you want. It only costs 36 cents an ounce⌠not bad⌠tasty, too! I have a frequent shopper card so for every $20 spent, I get $2.00 off next purchase.
Afterwards, while the girls where shopping, I settled in to write this post, but the chairs were really uncomfortable so I walked to the bookstore. I looked at blogging books, WordPress books, and other âtechieâ books. Decided I really didnât want to buy a techie book so I went to sit in their comfy chairs. I started to fall asleepâŚ
âŚafter a little while I realized I was in a BOOKSTORE and the FlyLady has written a few booksâŚ
âŚyou guessed it⌠I found her Sink Reflections
book. I love this bookstore because they have used books. They had it used, so I saved some money! I sat down to look at it and started getting sleepy againâŚ
âŚWHACK I snapped awake and realized I was only at 6,383 steps for the day and my goal was 10,000, so I went and bought her book and then started walking around the mall.
It wasnât a big mall, but it did the trick. After a little while I ran into the girls and they were ready to go, but I looked and I still had 800 or so steps to go, so I told them Iâd be a few more minutes. I kept going⌠I didnât want to give upâŚ
âŚI walked to the end and turned around⌠I walked past the store where the girls were, but kept going, as I looped around and we met I was at 10, 023 steps! đ Now, I could go home and go to bed. đ
If you donât have a pedometer and have an iPhone/iPod Touch, did you now that there is a great app called iTreadmill⌠I use my pedometer for âdailyâ use, but for long walks I use iTreadmill.
At the end of the day, I had walked 10,602 steps.
How many steps do you walk a day? Do you wear a pedometer? Do you use iTreadmill?
